Product Review: CoTZ Face Prime & Protect Sunscreen

I’ve been on rather a sunscreen kick recently. I got a sample of this from Ulta because my facial got cancelled. I haven’t had a good chemical peel in months. I’ve kept this in my office to apply when I forget or if I know I’m going to be outside for an extended period of time. For me that’s 4-5 hours. A couple weeks ago I needed to use it and realized how close it was to one of my favorite sunscreens Tizo. Tizo is only available to me through my dermatologist. As the name implies is a Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide active ingredient so the UVA and UVB protection is fantastic resulting in an SPF 40 and PA+++. It goes on matte but isn’t overly drying. The reason I quit wearing it is I started using other stuff that was easier to obtain and just forgot about it. So I was shocked when I pulled out this CoTZ product.

It feels, applies, and wears the exact same as my Tizo. CoTZ is also an SPF 40 with PA+++ with the active ingredients titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. So the UVA and UVB protection is excellent. I didn’t have a problem applying this over my YTTP Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream and my Clarins Double Serum which can be a problem with mattifying sunscreens because they want to roll off. I haven’t tried it over my heaviest moisturizers since I use those exclusively at night.

CoTZ does tint their sunscreen which is great because it does give a ‘My-Skin-but-Better’ glow. You can easily set this is a light powder or use a powder foundation and it won’t go anywhere. Add a little mascara and you have (in my opinion) a great no makeup, makeup look.

Expiration date: my little sample expires in January 2022. Clearly I’ll have that sample used up before the end of that, but that’s a shelf life.

Smell: I smell the faintest of an earthy smell. It isn’t off putting at all and I’d be willing to bet most people won’t even smell it.

Cost: $23.99 for 1.5 ounces ($16/ oz)

Compare that to my favorite Supergoop! Zinc Screen which is $42 for 1.7 oz ($24.71/oz) or La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral Sunscreen at $36.99 for 1.7 oz (21.76/oz). This is a great price for a high quality sunscreen. I’ll continue wearing and edit this later as I continue to use it.

CoTZ Face Prime & Protect Sunscreen is available online at CoTZSkincare.com and Ulta.

Do I recommend it? Absolutely. The cost and quality make this product one of the best ‘bang for your buck’ in your skincare routine. Remember we need to wear sunscreen all year round so finding something affordable is key to continual use. CoTZ Face Prime and Protect fits the bill perfectly.

Stay gorgeous
